End-to-end encryption and ethical guidelines for data processing provide security benefits which are increasingly relied upon, therefore interventions to address online misinformation must be privacy-preserving by design.

This project aims to demonstrate the feasibility of a browser-based tool to perform misinformation detection and intervention in a trustworthy and privacy-preserving manner to protect end users.

To support the development of this application, we will generate a typology of the misinformation strategies and associated linguistic constructs that people encounter online, as well as address barriers to digital information literacies to build public resilience to untrustworthy content, as recommended by The Royal Society (2022).
