We will convene a workshop series with the TAS Governance and Functionality Nodes, to explore theoretical and empirical approaches to understanding the ethics of trust(worthiness) in autonomous systems.
The Governance Node’s approach is to develop a conceptual framework that relates social trust, and moral and legal responsibility (the responsibility model). The Functionality Node takes an empirical ethics approach, which undertakes empirical research with stakeholders to inform the development of a theoretical framework.
The synergy between these approaches with different starting points will facilitate mutual learning about how best to study trust-related issues, will inform ongoing work and will pave the way for future collaborations.
