The risks associated with this are yet to be fully understood, and consideration of the requisite control measures, assurances and certification requirements is ongoing. 15:30 Keynote Talk: Coders as legislators? Legal, ethical and technical implications of code as law tbc
Professor Burkhard Schafer, Edinburgh Law School, University of Edinburgh
This talk will aim to bring the preceding workshop themes together by asking what issues we face, from legal, ethical and technological perspectives, if we try to prove that a system is law compliant. Using examples from road traffic law, we will discuss how value-sensitive decisions need to be made when translating legal provisions into executable code, and discuss the responsibilities that come with such a role.
