Groupthink is a collaborative artwork conceived by National Gallery X co-director Ali Hossaini. The artistic team is in dual residency at National Gallery X and the UKRI TAS Hub, and its aim is to guide research on the implications of a neurally connected society.

Groupthink invites Ars Electronica visitors to create art with their hearts. Ordinary webcams can detect the flow of blood, and the Groupthink audience will direct sitarist Shama Rahman and guitarist Mick Grierson by creating a visual score from their collective heartbeat.

Inspired by nature paintings in the National Gallery, the visualised heartbeats branch into a pulsating environment generated by AI. Visions of entanglement engulf the performers while linking the past, present and future of art.

No identifying information will be gathered or stored during production of Groupthink.

Registration isn’t required, simply go to the National Gallery X website to join on the day.
